PSYCHIATRIC EPIDEMIOLOGY · CLINICAL INFERENCE

Understanding mental health in the context of everyday life.

Psy-EVAL brings together research on psychiatric symptoms, their patterns across populations, and their connections with sleep and physical health. It is part of the EVAL Research Institute’s work on structured clinical assessment.

01 / OVERVIEW

A connected view

Mental health rarely fits into a single category.

Psy-EVAL was the original EVAL research program. Psychiatric experiences often overlap with sleep difficulties, physical conditions and changes in daily functioning. Psy-EVAL organizes this complexity into questions that can be studied consistently across people, places and time.

From individual symptoms to population patterns, the goal is research that keeps the clinical context visible.

03 / APPROACH

Structured questions. Interpretable reasoning.

The EVAL research approach connects clinical knowledge with epidemiological methods.

THE RESEARCH FRAMEWORK

The EVAL research program began with Psy-EVAL. Sleep-EVAL developed in the early 1990s as a related program devoted to sleep. Their shared research tradition uses structured interviews and knowledge-based clinical inference to study symptoms in context.

Collect

Use consistent, structured questions to document symptoms and context.

02

Connect

Examine co-occurring experiences and possible patterns across domains.

03

04 / CONNECTED RESEARCH

A bridge between sleep and psychiatry.

Sleep-EVAL and Psy-EVAL address related questions from complementary perspectives. The research considers sleep symptoms alongside psychiatric, neurological and medical conditions rather than treating them as isolated findings.
